Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look for when choosing the perfect parasail company for my family?

Experience! Each of our captains has over 10 years experience parasailing. Ask questions while you are waiting to fly. Our parasail captains are specifically trained in this water sport and are better prepared to balance all the elements on the water…weather, planes, other watercraft, and marine life.

What part of our vacation should we plan parasailing for?

We encourage you to plan parasailing for the first part of your vacation. That way, if the weather does not cooperate you will have other opportunities to fly. Some people who aren't familiar with Mississippi’s unpredictable weather have made the mistake of trying to plan for parasailing on the last day of their vacation, only to have Mother Nature rain on their parade.

Is parasailing scary?

Actually, it's the opposite. Parasailing is very serene and peaceful. Because the take offs and landings are slow and gradual, you don't have to worry about having a frightening experience.

Is parasailing safe?

Parasailing is safe because we make it safe. We have the most sophisticated equipment the industry makes; we don’t fly in winds over 20 mph; we stay at least 1600 ft. from shore in winds over 10 mph; we don’t fly in high seas or during small craft advisories; and we do not fly in thunderstorms. Your safety is our priority.

Do we need to make reservations?

Yes, because of the excursion’s popularity and limited seating we encourage reservations. There have been times when guests have shown up without a reservation only to have to wait a few hours for an opening. HOWEVER, if there is room on the boat walk-up guests are welcome.

What are our options for making reservations?

You have two options when making reservations: 1) Pre-Pay for your VIP Parasail Ticketing either online or over the phone. Guests who opt for this are given the courtesy of locking reservations at your earliest convenience. This is a great option for group reservations or you pre-planners who are coming to the area during peak seasons, which are spring and summer. (Please read our cancellation policies below.)

2) Call us.We take phone reservations and you will need a Mastercard, Visa, or Discover to secure your spots. We do not currently accept American Express. .

What are your cancellation and refund policies?

You have until 6pm the day prior to your reservation to cancel without any penalty. A same-day cancelation will be charged $25 per person. Same day reservations that are canceled will also be charged a $25 per person cancellation fee. A no-call/no-show fee is the full price of the flight.

Gift Certificates & Retail: We do not refund gift certificates or retail purchases. However, gift certificates are good until they are redeemed.

Can I be guaranteed to go up with my loved one as a tandem or triple?

NO, THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. Flights are dependent on weight load and winds. This weather factor can vary from minute to minute. That is why we can NEVER guarantee flight loads. You should be prepared to fly in the manner the captain deems the safest. (Note: We always need at least 110 lbs. in the chute, so little ones will always have to fly with a parent or sibling.) Safety is our #1 priority and we only fly what we are able to according to winds. That being said, if we have the winds you are encouraged to share your parasailing experience with a loved one.

How does parasailing work?

After getting outfitted with a life vest and harness, you're seated on the flight deck of the boat. Once seated the mate clips your harness to the parachute. You are then slowly and seamlessly lifted into the air. All of our takeoffs and landings are done straight from the boat so you can stay dry if you prefer.

How long does the excursion take?

The excursion is part parasailing and part boat ride, so you should plan on being out on the water for about an hour.

Do I need prior experience?

No, the captain and mate do ALL of the work for you. You just have to come prepared to have an awesome time.

Do I have to get wet?

No, you don’t have to get wet if you don't want to. Our way of flying is called controlled parasailing, meaning you take off and land smoothly right from the flight deck of the boat. If you opt for it, we can dip you. The captain slows the boat down and has you gently freefall until your toes touch the water. You then land safely on the boat deck.

Can I go if I am pregnant?

For your safety, pregnant women are not able to go parasailing or on the boat. But please come back and parasail with us after the baby arrives.

Can I go if I have suffered spinal, back, or neck injuries in the past?

Because the boat ride can be a bit bumpy at times, we ask that if you have suffered from these types of injuries you refrain from going parasailing or even on the boat.

How old do I need to be to fly?

Parasailors must be at least 6-years-old to parasail. Guests 17-years-old or younger must have an adult sign them in. On the other hand, sky’s the limit: there is no maximum age. Parasailing is special in that it truly is an activity that most family members can enjoy together!

Can I go up with someone else?

Yes, we offer double (tandem) flights. If the combined weight is over 450 lbs., however, then it is up to the captain’s discretion to decide whether the flight is possible. Weather conditions are the determining factor.

Is there a weight restriction?

To fly alone you must weigh at least 110 lbs. and for flights weighing over 450 lbs., it will be up to the captain to determine. Again, this all can vary according to weather conditions.

Can a minor go up by themselves?

Yes, weather permitted, if the minor weighs at least 110 lbs. But an adult needs to be present to check in anyone 17-years-old or younger. If the minor weighs less than 110 lbs. then they will have to fly with someone else to make up for the weight. Again, this all can vary according to weather conditions. More wind means we need more weight in the chute for stability purposes.

How long are the flight times?

Flights are approximately 7 - 10 minutes.

What if I change my mind when I’m already on the boat?

Of course you may change your mind but you will not be refunded. That being said, this rarely happens. On the contrary, we’ve had folks who were coming along just for the boat ride, ask if they too could go parasailing after seeing how fun and gentle it is.

Can I go on the boat to watch but not necessarily go up?

We do not take observer reservations. Right before departure IF there is room on the boat we will welcome you on the boat as an observer. The cost for that is $20. If you change your mind while on the boat and decide to fly, the $20 charge is then applied to the cost of parasailing.

What should I wear?

Ladies: bathing suits under clothing and delayer accordingly. Gentlemen: shorts/bathing suits and T-shirts are great. In the spring it could be a little chilly, at least for Mississippi’s standards, so you may want to bring a jacket or hoodie. Flip-flops or sandals are the ideal footwear.

Can I take my camera up with me?

You are allowed to take a camera up at your own risk, and should take into consideration the height and water risks of dropping something of value. Disposable cameras are best. We also offer a digital photo package as another option to capture your good times.

What photo package do you offer?

The digital photo package includes around 30 photos of your adventure. The crew uses a Canon Rebel T3 with a 300mm telephoto lens and a polarized lens cover to document your entire flight and at the end of the trip you get the memory card to keep. The cost is $28.

How much does it cost to go parasailing?

Single flight to 600 ft: $60
Double flight to 600 ft: $110
Triple flight to 600 ft: $160

What if it rains?

A little sprinkle and we stay out. Thunderstorms around and we come in. Based on weather radar we may then either go on stand-by or close down. If you weren’t able to fly then you may choose to be refunded or rescheduled for when we think the weather will cooperate.

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept Cash, Debit Cards, MasterCard, Visa or Discover.

What are the days and times the boats depart?

We are open 7 days a week, weather permitting, with the boat going out at 10:00am, and on average, every hour with our last flight leaving at 5pm.

IMPORTANT: Keep in mind that in Mississippi, parasailing and any other outdoor activity is best planned for the first part of the day since the chances of rain and winds increase as the day progresses.

Is it customary to tip the crew?

Just like others in the service industry, the crew works very hard to make sure all your needs aboard the boat are taken care of. It is customary to show them your appreciation by tipping 20%.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Parasailing Gift Certificates are a great unique idea for special occasions like the December holidays, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays. If you would like to give someone special the gift of parasailing, just let us know. We can get the gift certificates ready for pick-up or mail them out for you. You can also visit the SHOP section of our website to purchase them online.

What if I want to do something special with my family and friends for a birthday, anniversary, or wedding party with Pelican Parasailing or just want the boat to ourselves?

There are some folks who like the idea of a private charter so they can make their outing more intimate. We aim to please and would love the opportunity to give your group a one-on-one experience. Just contact us for details if you’re interested in having a vessel all to yourselves.
